13 Types of Tapes Used in Sewing Tape: A tape is a strip of material. In sewing, different types of tape are used for different types of use. Some are used to hold things, some are given strength and hardness, some are used to fasten things, some are used only for their decorative appearance and some are so functional that you cannot imagine sewing without them, such as bias tape.

1. bias tape
Bias tape is a strip of fabric that you can buy premed at shops or make yourself - it is basically a long cloth cut on the bias grain of the fabric. Tape is used to eliminate armholes, necklines, and other edges, and also as drawstrings, straps, etc.
It is available as single fold bias tape in 1/2 inch or 7/8 inch width. In a single-fold bias tape, the edges of the fabric strip are twisted lengthwise to the middle of the strip. The double-fold bias tape is a single-fold bias tape that is again folded in the middle. It typically measures 1/4 inch (but can measure a wider 1/2 inch). Double-fold bias tape is used to finish the edges or as a drawstring, cord, etc.

2. Braided tape
A braid is a band/plaid made by interviewing different strands of yarn/cord.

6. Hem tape

7. Piping/welding

9. Seam-binding tape
This seam allowance is tape attached to the seams of clothing, accessories, upholstery, etc. to seal the edges. It is used like a bias tape to tie the edges of the cut edges - giving a very clean finish. You can find polyester cotton and rayon tape in stores. Polyester is a bit stiff and can melt when ironed, cotton is also stiff and heavy while rayon seam binding tape is soft and pliable.
10. Seam tape
A seam tape is added to the seam and provides waterproofing for items that are on the outside because even if you are using a water-resistant fabric, there will be needle holes on the seam that will seep into the water. A seam tape will prevent this. To make a waterproof garment truly waterproof you need seam tape.
11. Stay tapped
Stay tape is a thin (1/4 to 3/8 () fusible or non-fusible tape that is used to strengthen the edges as well as to protect the edges of the fabric from cracking. This is usually done with necklines and The other edges are sewn inward so that they do not draw out of shape.
